The track starts up Zermatt's main artery with all its biggest shops. About 400 metres after passing the magnificent St. Mauritius Church with its bell tower, the route leaves the village and begins a slight climb to the small, authentic hamlet of Blatten.

From here the ascent becomes more difficult with stairways to the Furi lift station at 1862 metres. After a positive difference in height of 311 metres, the highest point is reached with a breathtaking view of the valley and the village of Zermatt.

The rest of the route is therefore mainly a gentle descent through the middle of the forest with several viewpoints over the Matterhorn. Shortly before the Findelbach railway station, the path becomes more leveled. So you should manage your breath well. But again, from the bridge after the station, a unique view of the Matterhorn and a slight descent along the valley side to the village allow you to catch your breath before a steeper descent to the river that divides Zermatt in two.

Once the river is crossed, you just have to follow it and fork before crossing the bridge of the train that goes up to the Gornergrat for the last sprint to the finish line and to the station where the race ends. The sheep mascot Wolli is waiting for you there for a finished picture!
